The Liechtenstein-based shipyard Dominator Dominator has made a gift for its 20th anniversary. This is the 42-metre three-deck flagship of the Ilumen range, named Peppermint. The first hull, ordered by a German owner, is currently under construction at the yard's docks and is due to be ready for the show in Cannes in 2022, where Dominator unveiled the 28-metreIlumen three years ago, witha total of six models in the range starting at 24 metres.

The builder assures that the Ilumen 42M Tri-Deck is a revolutionary yacht, with a key focus on clever space planning and filling the interior spaces with natural light. She is promised to be different in every way from anything currently on the market.

«We have built our brand around the values of quality and attention to detail. Now we are preparing to step into a new segment for us with a 42-metre yacht, which is basically unique for the market»," says Angela Pernsteiner, CEO of Dominator Yachts.

The first thing the engineering team set out to do was to optimize the weight and the strength of the vessel. Numerical results were also obtained using the finite element method (FEM), the most widely used method in aircraft engineering. The output is a hull made of composite «sandwich» by vacuum infusion method.

In turn the application of hydrodynamic modelling (CFD) helped to achieve a full understanding of how the boat will behave in both calm and rough seas.

The 42-metre Ilumen is the only yacht of its size to cross the Atlantic. She has a range of 5,900 miles on the displacement version, theoretically enough to get round the Atlantic and back.

With a semidisplacement hull, the range is more modest, but also impressive - 4,500 miles at cruising 11 knots.

The Mini-Explorer, as the yard calls it, will be the only player in this market segment with an optional touch-and-go helicopter pad at the bow. This is normally the fate of mega-yachts.

The owner's passion for the world travels could not be better reflected in this highly anticipated boat.

Every deck is a reflection of a specific region on the world map.

On fly bridge you can feel the influence of Middle Eastern themes: hookah lounge, muted colors... Going up to the upper deck, you get a piece of Asia with its pervasive idea of preservation and improvement of human health. Not surprisingly there's a yoga room, a gym and a smoothie bar. The aft cockpit, main salon and galley have a more European styling.

The owner's area takes up almost one third of the main deck area. The master suite is a glass enclosed space with modern décor, and more importantly, an office area with photocopying equipment and even a teleconferencing screen. The suite has the feel of a loft-style penthouse somewhere in Manhattan; importantly it has access to a private deck with easy access to the Jacuzzi level above.

Peppermint can accommodate up to 12 guests in six staterooms and seven crew members.
