Last Thursday, April 24, Team SCA embarked on its first transatlantic voyage, from the shores of Lanzarote to Newport, Rhode Island's capital city.

The 3,750 nautical mile voyage will last 12 days. Towards the end of the voyage the crew will follow the same route used in one leg of the Volvo Ocean Race, from Itajai in Brazil to Newport.

«This sailing will allow us to practice and test the skills we have gained during months of training. The crew is more or less manned and the roles are spread out, everyone knows his area of responsibility, so we will test our team in conditions close to a real race», says Team SCA coach, Joka Signorini.

There will be 12 crew members on board. All of them are girls.

The women's team aims to successfully compete in the race and demonstrate that the Volvo Ocean Race can be conquered not only by male or mixed crews.
