The Brazilian Navy has rescued the lone sailor Ebrahim Hemmatnia who was attacked by sharks in the Atlantic Ocean. According to TASS, the Dutch national, who had set out on a round-the-world voyage in November 2014, signalled his distress over the radio as a swarm of sharks damaged the rudder blade and the vessel's hull.

In response to a request for help, a Brazilian ship came forward and evacuated the sailor.

The traveler was now taken to the base in the city of Natal

Ebrahim Hemmatnia never gives up hope of setting off again. He still plans to circumnavigate the globe in four years, covering around 50,000km, not only by water but also by land. «For his journey, the yachtsman uses a six-metre-long single-seater», which has a mast for the sail and a pedal drive - a similar construction can also be used to travel on land, simply by attaching wheels to the watercraft.
