Nothing makes St. Petersburg's historic centre look more beautiful than the hundreds of fancifully dressed sapsurferswho have flooded the local canals. Sapsurfing festival «Fontanka-SUP» takes place here for the fourth time. This year it was attended by 792 SUP boards - a record for the festival. Peregrine surfers started at Moika Embankment, went through Fontanka river and Griboyedov Canal.
Sapsurfing Festival is not just a mass swim in the center of St. Petersburg, but also a carnival with prizes - at the end of the route the organizers award the participants for the best costumes.
This year the prize for the most inspiring performance was given to the girl in the costume of the Red Queen from the Hollywood animation «Alice in Wonderland». The winners in the category «Most Valuable Passenger» were the Koschev family of Daddy, Daughter and a Jack Russellnamed Casey. «The» category Best Board Decoration was won by a girl in a Frida Kahlo costume who decorated her board with flowers like the ones the famous artist liked to wear on her head. The winner of the prize for best costume was «Poseidon» wearing a crown and a scaly shell. The winners received SUP-boards, certificates for tennis, yoga and gym classes and other valuable prizes.
