Selling Brokers Power Catamarans
Category Description
As with their none powered sailing catamaran cousins, power catamarans with their dual hulls offer twice as much space as monohulls of the same length. This is also good news for those prone to sea sickness, catamarans are more stable, with minimum pitch and roll out in the sea. Since catamarans don't need a long and heavy ballast keel, their draft is less than that of monohull boats. You can explore shallow waters and come closer to the shore.
Power catamarans are available in a range of sizes, from small day boats to large, luxurious yachts. They offer a spacious and comfortable interior layout, with ample seating and sleeping areas, as well as amenities including galleys, heads, and entertainment systems.
There are some minor downsides to consider with catamarans of all kind. Firstly, catamarans on average cost more than monohull boats. Due to the width of a catamaran, berthing will cost you at least twice as much, and berths in popular marinas should be usually booked in advance. That being said, if you have the needed depth of pockets to afford a power cat, their is no doubt they offer a stylish and relaxed mode of sea travel for family and friends.
How are power catamarans built?
Most catamarans are built from composite materials, with some boatbuilders manufacturing the hulls as one piece and others using three different molds for the centerpiece and the two hulls. Sandwich construction and vacuum infusion method are used in both cases. Vacuum pressure is used to drive resin into laminate. In sandwich construction, layers of laminate are alternated with layers of filler (usually balsa tree or Divinycell foam). For large catamarans aluminum can also be used.
What types of engines are used on power catamarans?
Most power catamarans have a pair of inboard diesel engines with shaft drives. Some models in the 40-50-foot segment are also offered with Volvo Penta IPS pod drives.
