Category Description

«Flat» boats (flat or jon, to put it simply, flat bottoms) are in many ways similar to bass boats and are primarily used for fishing in very shallow and calm waters. Their low fiberglass or aluminum hulls have no bulwarks and the steering wheel with the simplest instrument console is centrally located so that fishermen can move freely around the perimeter.

These boats are equipped with outboard engines of medium power and often have a special design on the transom for lifting the engine in shallow water. For movement on shoals even special poles by analogy with rafts are used.

Close relatives of «flat» boats - bay boats - are a kind of hybrids of small fishing boats and passing boats. They have a higher rim, higher deadweight and higher draft, which give them better crossover characteristics. All these boats rarely exceed 30 feet in length, are designed for 2-3 passengers and are easily transported in a trailer.
