Category Description

Modern sailing yachts are divided into racing and cruising classes. The former is capable of high speeds, offering inhabitants a very ascetic living environment. Cruise yachts, on the contrary, are filled with conveniences, but at the same time, they are heavy and clumsy and suitable only for unpretentious amateur races. So, what to choose if you want both high speed and conveniences in one place?

To satisfy customers, many boat builders rushed into this task, and a new hybrid type of boat was born, which is commonly referred to as a "racing cruiser". Attempts to have it both ways led to the emergence of many interesting individual projects. However, the mass yacht builders also keep up with the market, offering many options (such as "Beneteau First" or "Bavaria" B/one).

Many companies have racing versions of cruisers in the model range. They may differ from the purely cruising ones by the size of the superstructure, lighter design of interiors, deck equipment, the material of spars and, of course, the sailing wardrobe. Carbon is often used as a basic material for making the mast and spars, and Kevlar is used for the sails. Many well-known boatbuilders, such as X-yachts, Bavaria, Swan, hold their own championships and support owners’ clubs (such as Swan or Wally). Some manufacturers conduct their own one-design classes.
