This yacht was launched back in 1976 under the name of Club Mediterranee. It's hard to believe it now, but the boat was originally created for the transatlantic race, and for the race of single yachtsmen. The idea of the creators of this four-masted giant boat was to be steered by the only one man, the famous French yachtsman Alain Cola. Alas, he was not so lucky in that race, the famous OSTAR 1976. The halyards began to tear one after the other and Alain Cola managed to come only second. Shortly after this race, the boat caught fire, which seriously damaged the unique boat. The boat remained idle for a long time until it was bought (and renamed into Phocea) by the millionaire Bernard Tapi, who in July 1988, set the record of crossing the Atlantic on it. Since her departure from Tapi's ownership and appearance, Phocea has evolved from a shallow-deck racing yacht to a highly sophisticated superstructure. Her keel is interestingly designed with depleted uranium packed in concrete briquettes as ballast, together with lead, for better stability.
