The fastest «solar» yacht arrives at Monaco regatta

The Solar 1 Monte-Carlo Cup, a solar-powered boat race, will be held in Monte Carlo from 10 to 12 July. The 31-metre MS Tûranor PlanetSolar will be there to congratulate the winners.

The yacht will serve as a platform for some of the activities of the regatta and will be home to the judges.

The boat will be showing by example the benefits of solar energy. «The vessel made the crossing of the Atlantic in 26 days during the 2010-2012 round-the-world race, and then a year later updated its record,» in 22 days 12 hours and 32 minutes. This achievement allowed MS Tûranor PlanetSolar to enter the«Guinness Book of World Records» and become the fastest «solar» boat in the world.

After taking part in the awards ceremony, the yacht will continue on her journey around the Mediterranean Sea.

The Solar 1 Monte-Carlo Cup is a regatta in which competitors will race in boats fitted with solar panels. The races will take place in three classes: A Class, Open Class and V20. Classes are based on vessel specifications, number of photovoltaic cells, and crew composition. Among the declared teams there are representatives of Russia - Team Beluga.
