A company associated with Google co-founder Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy has purchased a pier on Nantucket Island for a whopping $4.75 million.

It's one of three deep-water piers in Nantucket Harbor. It's long enough to park a 156-foot yacht.

Fisher Real Estate acted as broker for the deal. A spokesman for the agency said there were several bidders for the sold parking space. He did not name a buyer, but according to the city's real-estate registry, the pier was leased for 99 years by a holding company run by the Schmidt family investment firm based in Palo Alto, Calif.

That company's top management includes Melissa Philbrick, executive director of ReMain Nantucket, a community organization founded by Eric Schmidt's wife, Wendy. Philbrick told The Bostone Globe reporters that the pier was purchased for personal use, not for ReMain.

Note that Wendy Schmidt has a passion for yachting and even designed her own boat Elfje, a 152-foot sailing superyacht built by Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman.

The deep-water pier was last sold in Nantucket Harbor in 2002 for $2.1 million. Typically, superyacht berths cost several million dollars in the US, but the offer includes a luxury villa ashore.
