Fire destroys two yachts in Fort Lauderdale

Two boats burned Sunday morning at the Port of Fort Lauderdale: a 75-foot boat from Azimut and a 50-foot boat from Sunseeker ignited near a repair shop.

As there were many other high-value watercraft near the affected vessels, about 50 firefighters were called to the scene. Rescuers were able to prevent widespread burning, but four other yachts also sustained minor damage.

Authorities are now trying to determine the cause of the fire, which is also believed to be arson, as well as repair the fuel spill when Sunseeker was filled with 1500 gallons of fuel that leaked into the water. In addition, economic damages are being assessed.
