A storm damaged a replica of the ship «Providence», on which U.S. Army Captain John Paul Jones sank about 40 British ships during the War of Independence.

The sloop was undergoing winter repairs at the Newport shipyards when strong winds hit the city. Unable to withstand the force of the elements, the sailing ship fell off the slipway.

As a result of the incident, the ship had a broken side and a broken mast.

The captain of «Providence» said that the ship will be restored by the end of summer. Since the final cost of repairs is still unknown, social networking site Facebook has decided to help the historic monument and has promised to transfer $10 for every likes on this page. In addition, donations can be left using this site
