The U.S. Coast Guard rescued yachtsman John Kanafoski and his dog off the coast of Florida.

The man and the animal were the crew of a 30-foot boat that had caught fire. Because it was too dangerous on the boat, they moved to a dinghy and found themselves alone in the ocean.

According to Kanafoski, they spent three days in the dinghy, but it wasn't until the third day that the man called for help. Why he did so remains to be seen.

The yachtsman had prepared well for the trip, he had a life jacket on his boat, he had enough food in his suit and the dog was wrapped in a blanket. The only thing the doctors diagnosed was smoke poisoning.

Now donations are being collected on the victim's Facebook page: the fire has destroyed almost all the property.
