Surfing competition off the coast of South Africa was halted last Sunday, July 19, after a shark attacked one of the athletes.

The predatory fish attacked three-time world champion surfer Mick Fanning and knocked him off his board. The surfer fell into the water and, seeing the offender, kicked her.

Fortunately, safety officials immediately came to the man's rescue: they scared the shark away.

«I felt something behind me. - Fanning recalls. - Suddenly I was being pulled underwater. Then I saw a fin and I was lying on a plank, and there she was. I thought, "What if she attacks me again?" But then a boat came along. I couldn't believe it. It was like I was out».

Immediately after the predator attack, the 2015 Samsung Galaxy World Surf League Championship Tour competition was decided to end. The prize money was divided between the injured Fanning and another athlete Julian Wilson, who, seeing that his rival was in trouble, rushed to his aid.
