Public project «Right to Water» unites representatives of yacht clubs, ports, educational institutions, ships, expert community, shipyards and workshops, architectural studios, activists of Saint-Petersburg to coordinate activities aimed at popularization of water recreation and creation of comfortable spaces on shore.
At the first meeting the project participants outlined the range of problems connected with the use of water and coastal territories in St.Petersburg. They include lack of involvement of an average St.Petersburg citizen in sailing and motor sports, lack of publicly available and comprehensible information about the rules of access to the water, unsuitable coastal areas, lack of easy access to the water on the quays and territories for non-profit projects such as yacht-clubs.
Project participants noted that the city lacks a unified body dedicated to water and coastal development, as well as a unified information resource where all regulations and laws governing the use of coastal areas and water areas, a list of all urban communities, organizations and projects related to water, and a calendar of events for all water communities can be found.
On December 6, the second meeting of the project «The Right to Water» was held at the Architect's House. The participants divided into working groups based on their experience and interests: «water information center», «educating officials», streets on water», «children's sea center» and «Petrovsky marathon». Open experience exchange meetings will become monthly.
