Spanish shipyard BD Yachts has introduced the BD56. This crossover yacht combines the features of sailing and motor yachts.

Its 16.66 meter long and 4.5 meter wide concept won the 2009 MYDA (Millennium Yacht Design Award). The BD56 has distinctive character and style through a combination of sail and motor technology. Her sleek and sporty exterior styling is accentuated by her fully glazed superstructure.

The hull of the BD56 is constructed of lightweight yet highly durable vacuum laminate with an adjustable lifting keel (draft varies from 2.1m to 3.5m). The yacht has a carbon mast and semi-automated jib. Optimized hull form and optimized sail rigging will satisfy the most demanding riders' need for speed. The deck design is calm and ergonomic, with two helm stations on board.

She is designed to be easy to handle with simplicity without sacrificing performance. Optimal rigging and modern rigging will allow the BD56 to cruise quickly even in a gale-force wind. In windy conditions the gennaker is easy to bring the boat to plane, the engines provide maneuverability even for inexperienced yachtsmen.

When there is no wind or a storm is brewing and it's time to return to harbor quickly, the BD56 transforms into a fast motor yacht.

She is accelerated to 21 knots with her two outboard engines. This arrangement saves space in the interior with a bright and airy saloon on the same level as the cockpit. It provides a 360 degree view and an unobstructed view of the sea in all weathers. The layout features three cabins with ensuite bathrooms. The master stateroom is forward with large windows. The owner can choose an alternative layout if desired.
