The first hull Glider SS18 called M, launched on 21 March, has been undergoing sea trials in Southampton since early April. This unusual catamaran is referred to in the British media as a "superyacht on skis".

During these tests they were capable of accelerating the 18-meter long catamaran to 50 knots in calm waters. However, when the yacht was under construction she was promised a cruising speed of 56 knots even in rough seas.

She is yet to be tested in choppy waters, so we'll see what the results will be.

The Super Sport 18 hull is designed to glide through the water rather than crashing into waves. Her high speed is guaranteed by four supercharged engines, each rated at 270 hp, combined with water jets.

The catamaran's cockpit can accommodate four passengers and a pilot. They will enjoy a fast ride in custom-made leather sports seats in an interior trimmed with alcantara and polished aluminum. The futuristic yacht has a price tag of £600,000.

SS18 is the first of three models in Glider Yachts new range of luxury catamarans. «For those who can't get up to 50 knots, Glider Yachts will deliver Hyper Sports version that will have 3400 horsepower under the hood». The HS18 will be able to reach 60 knots in 3.5 seconds and have a top speed of over 96 knots.» Glider Yachts is also planning a long 24-meter «limousine version that will be able to carry up to 12 people on board.
