One of the largest regattas in Europe for Russian-speaking yachtsmen ended in Croatia - «Cabestan-Croatia 2016». This year 326 athletes from 24 countries participated in the regatta. The competition was held for the 20th time.

The races took place from April 30 to May 7 on the islands of Middle Dalmatia. The route of the regatta was planned for seven days with stops in several beautiful harbours of Croatia with modern infrastructure. Daily crossings ranged from 10 to 20 miles. In total, over 100 miles were covered.

The regatta started in atypical strong winds for May Croatia: during the first days the boats went into strong 5-6 Beaufort points, which made the competition a test of endurance.

Despite this, the organizers held three cross-country races and three sign races, and until the last day four or six crews in each division competed for gold.

So, in the First 45 class, the fate of first and second as well as third and fourth place was decided by the number of first, second and even third arrivals. The rivals in the Hanse 445 division also finished heapingly, where the gap between first and fifth place was three points.

«Every time the line-up of participants is more and more interesting, the competition is increasing, - says Boris Lysenko, 2015 Russian champion in the quarter-ton class and silver medalist of the regatta «Cabestan-Croatia 2016». - This is what we love racing for: in a highly competitive environment, there is no shame to lose».

In addition, for the first time in the history of Russian-language amateur regattas «Cabestan» opened the ORC Club Rule division - for owners of racing yachts. In the first year the division was strengthened by appearance of Victor Yazikov, who sailed solo around the world twice, FRAPA Women's Sailing Team of Croatia, racing crew Farr 40 «Favorit» directed by Peter Lezhnin and Maxim Nemchenko, and yacht IMX-40 «Jukebox Trysail» headed by Mikhail Voronov.
