The penultimate race of the fifth stage of 52 Super Series opened on July 24 in Puerto Portals, Mallorca. Russia is represented in these competitions by Bronenosec Sailing Team from St. Petersburg Yacht Club.

«Bronenosec» had an unsuccessful start in the 52 Super Series: the team finished eighth out of eleven in the second stage and then finished penultimate in the third stage which has the status of world championship in the TP52 class. The management of «Armadillo» made the appropriate conclusions and carried out a staff reshuffle. It did not take long before the fourth round of the 52 Super Series in Porto Cervo «Armadillo» took silver.

By the fifth stage the team changed tactics: Morgan Larson was replaced by New Zealand sailor, reigning America's Cup winner «» and Volvo Ocean Race winner Ray Davies.

This was done in order to strengthen «Armadillo» at the end of the season, when it is important for the team to avoid mistakes and maintain stability.

The replacement has paid off so far: although the first race, which was only possible on the second occasion due to wind abatement, was unsuccessful (seventh arrival), the second day of competition «Armadillo» came fifth twice, securing fifth place in the standings, which the Russian team shares with Germany's Platoon.

«On the whole we are happy with our speed and we will work on improving our results in the following days - said Alberto Barovier, the Bronenosec tanker, - a bit disappointing for the second race result, because at the finish of the second race of the day we were in third place, but we executed an unnecessary maneuver and missed two rivals».

The early leader of the standings was the Swedish RAN, followed by the veteran Swedes of the class, the experienced Italians Azzurra and the often astonishing Turkish Provezza. The competition in Puerto Portals will continue until 28 July.
