Russian Open Championship in SB20 class will be held in St. Petersburg on September 14-18.

This year the competitions get a new meaning due to the recent decision of the Russian Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation to include SB20 racing in the All-Russian registry of sports as an independent discipline.

Now the participants of the championships in this class will be able to compete not only for medals, but also for the titles of candidates and masters of sports.

Anna Basalkina, executive director of Association of SB20 class, hopes that in St.Petersburg sportsmen will have a chance not only to find out who is stronger on racing distances but also to discuss the topical issues of SB0 fleet development in Russia.

«Life in our class has always been distinguished by democracy. Many questions of organization of sailing regattas - calendar, format of races, conditions of participation - are solved taking into account wishes of the Association members. Therefore at the championship I'm waiting for yachtsmen to share their ideas and opinions, I expect disputes and constructive discussions», - said Anna Basalkina.

At present SB20 class is one of the most modern and popular yacht classes in Russian sailing. There are about 60 boats registered in the Class Association - along with Australia, the UK, Holland and Portugal the Russian fleet is considered to be one of the largest in the world. About 200 yachtsmen participate in SB20 races in Russia every year.
