A 20-year-old girl has been charged with drunken driving leading to the injury of 10 people in a boating accident on Gage Lake.

Dominique Effinger was operating a Ski Nautique motorboat at high speed. On one particularly steep curve, the driver and her passengers were thrown from the boat. The speed of the boat was 26 knots at that point.

After that, the empty boat continued to make circles on the lake. The only thing that stopped it was a rope thrown over the propeller.

The speedboat sustained damage to the Boston Whaler before stopping.

The incident took place on 15 July at a lake in the US state of Indiana. There were 10 people aboard Ski Nautique, two of them were severely injured, the rest - including the driver - got only bruises.

As the investigation found out, the girl driver of the motorboat was under the influence of alcohol.

She was prosecuted for operating a motorboat while intoxicated, causing serious bodily harm to third parties.
