Superyacht arrested in Croatia

The owner of the superyacht, whose name has not been disclosed, has been sued by a man claiming that he was not compensated for the sale of the yacht.

According to the yacht's captain and the owner's lawyer, the plaintiff has no basis for such allegations and is using the court case as a way to extort money from the owner.

This is apparently not the first time the man has made such allegations against superyacht owners based in Croatia and Italy. Typically, he files suit early in the season, believing that the owner will pay to release the yacht from detention without waiting for a court order and be able to spend the summer on it. In some cases this tactic has indeed worked, writes Superyachtnews.com. They managed to communicate with the captain of the arrested yacht and the owner's lawyer during the Monaco Yacht Show.

In this case the owner refused to pay and now is awaiting a decision on his case.

According to the captain of the affected yacht there is no burden of proof in Croatia for the arrest of the vessel.

The boat owner won the first trial, but the boat remains under arrest while the appeal is pending.
