The Yacht Club of New York has just announced its decision to compete in the 36th America's Cup «» . The club, which will be represented by the Bella Mente Quantum Racing Association, will enter the battle for The Auld Mug, the main trophy of the America's Cup «» after an 18-year hiatus.

The New York Yacht Club last competed in the regatta in 2002-2003. At that time it was represented by Dennis Conner's team. The Club had a long history in the Cup - from the inception of the oldest regatta in 1851 until 1983 when its longest winning streak in sailing history was broken with a loss to Team Australia II. The first win for Yacht Club of New York in the America's Cup «» was won by the legendary yacht «America», which gave the regatta its name.

The New York Yacht Club team will be led by two of the most successful American sailors of the decade - John J. «Hap» Foth (Naples, FL) and Doug DeVos (Grand Rapids, MI).

Fauth and his crew at «Bella Mente» have collected prizes in regattas around the world. Fauth is also a three-time world champion in the Maxi 72 class. DeVos and his Quantum Racing team became 52 Super Series champions in 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016.

The liaison between the two teams is Bella Mente Quantum Racing Association skipper and CEO Terry Hutchinson, a two-time Rolex Yachtsman of the Year and America's Cup veteran.

Judging by the comments of the parties involved, a big part of the club's decision to join the Cup was a return to single-hulled racing.
