Rock band Pearl Jam donated $70,000 to pay for the medical treatment of a sailor who saved band frontman Eddie Vedder 15 years ago.

Eddie Vedder and his two girlfriends sailing in a canoe capsized off Hawaii. Eddie and his girlfriends were struggling to stay afloat in the choppy ocean, holding onto their oars, when father and daughter Keith and Ashley Baxter, who were vacationing on a yacht nearby, rushed to their aid.

Earlier this year, Keith had an accident: a rusty anchor nearly severed his leg. The injury led to a bone infection.

After the accident, Keith's daughter Ashley happened to meet Kacky Ovrom Chamberlain, one of the girls they rescued 15 years ago, and told her about the trouble her father was in. Kacky created a page on GoFundMe.com to help raise money for Keith's expensive treatment. The campaign raised $70,000, while Pearl Jam contributed the same amount, bringing the total raised to $140,000.

«Thanks to all of you, I got the best treatment possible. Thanks to Dr. David Thordason at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the infection is gone and I'm on my way to a full recovery," Keith Baxter wrote on the campaign page. - I am undergoing therapy to regain motor activity in my leg, but have already been able to return to work at Baxter Charters and water sports. This is the best therapy ever!»
