Boat like the palm of your hand. Smart device from Volvo Penta

Volvo Penta has unveiled its new Easy Connect product, which allows boat owners to get engine, route and fuel consumption data on their mobile device screen.

Easy Connect is a smart device that is mounted on the boat. In real-time mode via Bluetooth it transmits the information to a mobile phone or tablet with the appropriate application installed. All collected information is stored in the program and is available even away from the boat.

The novelty is compatible not only with the latest models of engines. The manufacturer has ensured that it can be used with a wide range of Volvo Penta engines from as early as 2003.

The free Easy Connect app can now be installed on smartphones and tablets running iOS 10 or later, and will be available for Android devices in the second half of the year.

The app works in two modes: «Captain» and «Home».

In the first case - when the mobile device is on board - the screen displays data on the route, speed, oil temperature, pressure, fuel level, battery status, number of hours the engine has been running and emergency state of the boat. If your boat has an NMEA 2000 system installed, you can extend the range of these readings by connecting Easy Connect to it.

«Home Mode» provides an offline view of fuel levels, engine hours, and all traveled voyages. The program makes it possible not only to plan future trips, but also to share maps of your travels with family and friends via social networks.

In addition, Easy Connect is designed to simplify the customer's interaction with Volvo Penta's service centre. The boat owner can email the dealer at any time with any data from the app, including an error code. The technicians will now be able to help solve the problem on site faster or prepare more efficiently before the customer's visit.

«It's a bit like having an extra crew member on board»," says Marcus Pettersson, project manager.
