The 134m yacht Fincantieri Serene has run aground in the Red Sea, Superyachtnews.com sources report . The vessel hit rocks and is now sitting trimmed to the stern 20 miles east of the popular Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, having sustained structural damage to her bulb, bow and hull. The hull is also reported to have holes in the bow, and while the boat is not yet gaining water, there are concerns that it is only a matter of time.

The presumed cause of the accident is a navigation system error and engine failure, although this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

In order to get the yacht aground, it is supposed to put a patch on the hull and take ballast aft. Weather conditions are not conducive to a rescue operation at the moment, but are improving.

The current owner bought the 134m Serene from Russian vodka magnate Yuri Shefler in 2015 for an undisclosed sum. It was one of the biggest brokerage deals of the year, with different media estimates ranging from €300m to €500m.

Serene came off the slipway at Fincantieri in 2011. She is one of the ten largest yachts in the world.

Serene has seven decks with two helipads and a large saltwater pool capable of hosting a service vessel and a submarine with a depth of 100 meters. The interior, designed by Reymond Langton Design, is 4,500 square meters in size. Serene accommodates up to 24 guests in 12 cabins.
