Ferretti Yachts 550 restyle: when the best is not the enemy of the good

The Italian shipyard has retained the best features of the popular 550, but refreshed its interiors, making this flybridge cruiser even more intimate than before.

Italians always strive for perfection in everything: that includes coffee, music, and... yachts. In 2015, when the 550 was first introduced to the public, Ferretti's head of sales Stefano Campanelli described it as «little». Yet despite its modest size, the Ferretti 550 has a unique geometry that allows it to accommodate many features unique to this format. To accommodate, not to squeeze into a 55 foot hull. There are 3 cabins, each with its own private bathroom, as well as one or two crew cabins, to choose from. There are plenty of outdoor seating areas, including a functional flybridge.

Besides its unique geometry, the Ferretti 550 has made a name for itself thanks to the continuous glazing that makes the boat dynamic and emphasizes the hull profile. Thanks to the large windows, the entire interior of the lower deck is beautifully lit and the panes themselves harmonize with the superstructure with a truly Italian grace.

All these features have been adopted in the restyled version of the Ferretti Yachts 550 which was presented for the first time at the Cannes Boat Show. The deck layouts remained untouched. One of the most important differences in the external design is the increase of the windscreen by 5 centimeters, which improves the visibility from the bridge.

In addition, Feretti has modified the aft hydraulic platform, increasing the total length of the boat to 17.42 meters. The 3.25-meter tender is easy and convenient to launch, and the platform steps continue beyond the waterline. This allows you to board and come back on board effortlessly. The platform gives access to the starboard side of the cockpit via moulded comfort steps.

The main changes are in the interior trim. The most prestigious brands perfected the color schemes of the interior and raised the quality of used materials to a new level to make the restyled boat completely correspond and underline the status of «Made in Italy».

The design is dominated by light wood - walnut from Piero Lissoni collection by Alpi brand. It harmonizes perfectly with the quartz glossy surfaces and light beige textile. The latter is used not only for furniture and window blinds, but also as a material to cover the ceiling spaces of both the lower and the main deck. Thus the new Ferretti 550 has more «warm» interior, which will appeal to any fan of comfort and homeliness.

Italians value comfort above all else, so an extended sofa has been added in the cockpit, with a large pantry to the left that can be converted into an additional captain's cabin, while an ice maker and wind bar are optionally built in on the right side.

Several changes can also be seen in the master cabin. In the hallway, additional storage space has been added, where a washing machine and dryer can be installed. The headboard, located in the centre, is trimmed with elegant sand-coloured nubuck. Lacquered cupboards are on the right side and a coffee table with two opposite armchairs is on the left.

The restyling retains the generous outdoor seating and sunbathing areas, while the flybridge is further enhanced with a C-shaped lounge sofa and a large guest table.

The upgraded boat can be equipped with a choice of 2 MAN 730 hp or 800 hp engines. A bow thruster is available as standard equipment, while a roll stabilizer is optional.

Interestingly, the price of the updated model did not change compared to «pre-styled» version.

With MAN 730 hp engines, the standard version costs 1,190,000 euros (at the factory in Italy).

Any of the 3 hulls under construction are already available from the official representative Burevestnik Group. The first owners of the restyled model will receive their boat already in spring 2018.
