An abnormally calm final stage of RC44 Championship Tour - Calero Marinas Cup has come to an end in the Canaries.

Before the start of the competition on Lanzarote Island, second in the overall standings was «Katusha» Aleksandra Novoselova, who won two stages out of four, and third was «Nika» Vladimir Prosikhin, who had one victory under her belt. But a modest five races of the last stage of the tour shuffled the deck. « Katusha» had her worst regatta of the season, finishing in 7th place and slipping from second to third overall, while silver of the season went to «Nika» who was able to rehabilitate herself after her unsuccessful performance at the previous stage in Cascais.

«An important role in the rehabilitation of Prosikhin's team was played by the appointment of New Zealander Dean Barker, a multi-time participant of the America's Cup» before the start of the Calero Marinas Cup.

«Nika», completing her seventh season in the RC44 class, added silver to the Championship Tour regatta series title she earned in August in Marstrand, Sweden. As for «Katyusha», the team made it to the podium of the RC44 Championship Tour for the first time in its history.

Another Russian-flagged team - «Armadillo» Kirill Frolov - finished fifth at the end of the season. For «Bronenosets» this season is their debut: the team is competing for the first time with an all-Russian line-up. Kirill Frolov, the skipper, before the start of the last race in the Canaries, admitted that he had never raced in this waters before. Nevertheless, «Armadillo» managed to take the podium in two stages, and in the last one he won one race and finished in the top five three times.

«I think that for the debut season we performed very well - Kirill Frolov commented on the results of the team, - now we are going to discuss our plans for the next season, perhaps there will be an opportunity for winter training here in the Canaries».

RC44 Championship Tour off-season will not be very long. The 2018 season will open as early as February 2018. Full results for 2017 can be viewed at this link.
