With three days to go before the third stage of the Volvo Ocean Race, the participating teams are having as much fun as they can. Team Brunel of Bowie Becking, for example, decided to help Danish kitesurfer Nick Jacobsen set another insane record.

The Dane used Team Brunel's yellow VO65 to glide 277 meters into the sea.

He broke the previous altitude record for a towing kite, set by Jesse Richman with a motor yacht and held for over 4 years, by 33 meters.

To launch Nick Jacobsen into the sky, the sailors used an 800-meter rope to which the kite was tied. Kyle Langford of Team Brunel, a longtime kitesurfing fan, controlled the winch. The VO65 accelerated, lifting the kite above the ground. Waiting for the rope to uncoil to its maximum length, Jacobsen released it and successfully glided to the water. It took him 66 seconds to make the descent from a height of 277 metres.

This is not the first time Nick Jacobsen has taken part in such adventures. In April this year he jumped off the Burj Al Arab, the third largest building in the world.
