Volvo Ocean Race: no minute photo finish in Auckland

Round 6 of Volvo Ocean Race has finished in Auckland. The difference in time between the winners - AkzoNobel team and their nearest pursuers from Hong Kong Scallywag - was only 2 minutes and 14 seconds. The finish was one of the ten closest finishes in the history of the Volvo Ocean Race.

The global conspiracy theorists were betting on Team Brunel, driven by New Zealand sailor Peter Berling for the first time, to win the rounds in order to please local fans - but the reality dispelled these dubious assumptions. The yellow boat crossed the finish line last and left the rest of the fleet behind by 2 hours.

Let's not forget, though, that Peter Burling isn't the only New Zealander in the Volvo Ocean Race. His 49er partner Blair Tuke is aboard Spanish MAPFRE that managed to beat third placed Turn The Tide on Plastic and get on podium pulling ahead of Dongfeng. As a result, Di Caffari's boat was only in 5th place.
