Lexus will launch a 20-metre premium flybridge yacht under its brand in the second half of 2019. The announcement was made by Shigeki Tomoyama, vice president of Toyota Motors Corporation, at the Japan International Boat Show in Yokohama, Japan.

The boat will be built at the Marquis-Larson Shipyard with which the Lexus Sport Yacht was previously built.

The new model is designed on the same platform as its smaller speedboat brother but unlike it has several luxury cabins below deck and a spacious seating area for 15 guests.

The Lexus Sport Yacht powerboat was unveiled at the 2017 Miami Boat Show. The carbon fiber boat, capable of speeds up to 43 knots, was originally conceived as a one-off and was not expected to go into production. «The popularity of this model, named» Boat of the Year at the show in Japan, as well as the activation in the shipbuilding industry of Lexus' rival brand Mercedes AMG, forced the company to reconsider its yacht plans.

«Based on our unmatched experience designing, building, testing, and presenting a Lexus sports yacht model we are taking the bold step of producing a larger yacht that will take the best of the previous model, while adding more comfort and accommodations»," Tomoyama said.

Sales of the 65-foot Lexus yacht are scheduled to start in the second half of 2019 in the U.S., and in early spring 2020 in Japan. Features, pricing and other details about the new yacht will be revealed later.
