Two Russian competitors of Monaco Swan One Design in ClubSwan 50 class prevented each other from taking higher places in the final standings.

In the last of the nine races of the regatta Bronenosec Vladimir Lubomirov ran into Skorpidi Andrei Konogorov. The contact was easy, but, nevertheless, did not allow both teams to continue their fight.

The former had damaged the bowsprit, while the latter developed a crack in the transom.

The non-finish deprived «Armadillo» of the opportunity to enter the top three and «Scorpidi» of the chance to claim regatta silver.

The result: the St. Petersburg Yacht Club team was fourth, while Konogorov's team was third. Silver went to Mathilde of Switzerland and gold to Cuordileone of Italy.

«The race committee was very patient and did an exceptional job in the difficult conditions in Monaco - says the tactician of the victorious ClubSwan 50 "Cordelione", the legendary Ken Reed. - The winds were changing directions a lot but if you can anticipate and correctly take the weather, you will always have a chance of winning. For an experienced yachtsman it's the most rewarding feeling when you can work at such a limit».

It was Ken Reed and Cuordileone who were the first to test the new Club Swan 50 class during the 2016 Rolex Cup. The class is still fairly small - in Monaco it was represented by a fleet of five boats - but its popularity is growing rapidly.

This season, the Rolex Swan Cup will host the first-ever world championship in the Club SWAN 50 class. Russians will have an opportunity to prepare for it by taking part in another Baltic offshore regatta, the Nord Stream Race, which starts at the end of June.
