«The film» (Adrift) about a couple in love who find themselves in the epicenter of the most powerful hurricane Raymond in the Pacific Ocean on a 44-foot yacht is released in Russian cinemas on June 28th. The film is directed by Balthasar Cormacur, who also directed «Everest». Starring Shailene Woodley (Divergent, The Descendants, Blame the Stars) and Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Snow White and the Huntsman, The Hunger Games).

The film is based on true events. In October of 1983, 23-year-old Californian Tami Oldham and her British boyfriend Richard Sharp hitched a ride on the 44-foot ketch Hazana from Tahiti to San Diego.

On the 19th day of the voyage, they found themselves in the midst of Tropical Storm Raymond.

Sharp told his bride to hide in the bilge while he himself remained on deck, tying himself to the leer. The wind speed during the storm reached 140 knots. The man died: he was washed away in the storm.

Oldham managed to make it to land alone.

She travelled 1,500 miles in 41 days in a hurricane-ravaged yacht without a mast, using a sextant to navigate.

When Oldham finally reached land, her hair was washed of salt for two days. She later chronicled her adventures in her book «Red Sky in Morning. A true story of Love, Loss, and Survival at Sea». She said, among other things, that during her journey she was helped by a kind of Voice who encouraged her and kept her from going astray or going crazy.
