The First Sailing Festival was held in Moscow

On May 13, the First Sailing Festival was held at Ostankino Pond. The event, which attracted more than 4.5 thousand people, was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of sailing in Russia.

The main event of the Festival was the 19th Traditional Ostankino Children Sailing Regatta attended by over 150 young yachtsmen.

These competitions have been held since 1974 to commemorate the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Besides, guests of the event were offered an extensive informative and entertaining program which began with morning exercises with Polina Surchalova, master of sports in sailing and multiple champion of the USSR and Russia.

As part of the festival different master-classes were held on the water: their skills were demonstrated by the coaches of yachting schools, SUP-surfing instructors and also by the Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, the World and European Champion Georgy Ivanovich Shaidukowho told about the peculiarities of the yachts of the «Star Class».

The brass band of the Sailing Club «Gardemariny», children's art groups and famous artists gave a concert on the main stage. Also at the festival you could visit the photo exhibitions, devoted to the sport of sailing and the exposition of yachts, learn to knit nautical knots and paint one-meter high figures of sailing ships or lighthouses.
