Finnish shipyard Nautor's Swan has unveiled the new Clubswan 36 monotype racing class. The presentation with the yard's president Leonardo Ferragamo and the project designer Juan Kouyoumdjian took place during the Rolex Giraglia regatta.

The ClubSwan 36 is the most technologically advanced racing monotype of the entry-level series.

A lightweight racing yacht with a displacement of just 2.5 tons with a flat deck and sloping bow, she is fitted with a double rudder blade, retractable bowsprit and a C-shaped foil that can be extended from the hull at various angles by means of tacks. The foil has an auxiliary function and serves two purposes: it generates lateral force and reduces drag. The designers promise that the boat will be very fast on a full course.

The carbon mast with a stepped deck has only one pair of mastheads, allowing for a wide range of sailing settings. The mast base position is adjustable.

The class rules are still under development but one fundamental principle is known: the ClubSwan 36 is an owner-driven amateur class. The proportion of professional sailors in the crew shall not exceed 50%.

The zero hull of the ClubSwan 36 will be launched this year. The prototype will undergo extensive trials during which all systems will be debugged. The innovative auxiliary power unit being developed by Nautor's Swan with Torqeedo and BMW will also be trialled. The partners intend to equip the ClubSwan 36 with all-electric engines.
