Jaguar Vector Racing's Speedboat has set a new world speed record for electric-powered boats. No one has been able to beat the previous record for 10 years.

The Jaguar Vector Racing V20E finished one kilometer at an average speed of 88.61 mph (142.6 km/h), beating the previous record of 76.8 mph (123.6 km/h) set in 2008.

The correspondence race, like 10 years ago, took place on the British Lake Coniston Water. The pilot was Peter Dredge, co-founder and technical director of Jaguar Vector.

The boat was designed and built in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering, which develops innovative solutions for the automotive, aerospace, sports and defence industries.

The V20E was created using technologies that are used in Formula E electric cars.

The vessel is equipped with 320 kilograms of batteries and a pair of Yasa electric motors rated at 295 hp.

«This is an amazing result. Twelve months of hard work by our team and partners and a great first step towards electrifying the marine industry, demonstrating the power and versatility of this technology»," commented Malcolm Crease, CEO of Jaguar Vector Racing.

Vector is a leading global racing boat brand with nearly 30 years of history. This year, the firm has joined forces with iconic automaker Jaguar.

The team has no intention of stopping there and plans to break several more world records over the next year and a half.
