In England, a local yacht owner accidentally drained a 200-year-old navigable canal after locking it.

One of the sections of the largest canal in Great Britain «Kenneth - Avon» was left almost completely without water for several hours. It was caused by simple human negligence: a local man rushed to close the lock after ditching his boat.

The water level in the dried up section was restored within a few hours. Meanwhile, the canal authority verified that the citizen's actions were not malicious.

«Kennet and Avon Canal» The Kennet and Avon Canal is a 140-kilometre long navigable canal in southern England that has been actively used for navigation since 1810. It connects the Avon and Kennet Rivers, which flow into Bristol Bay, and the Kennet, a tributary of the Thames. The canal was twice intended to be closed, but locals have defended its existence both times.

Today the canal «Kennet to Avon» is a centre for river tourism: there are many canoe clubs, regular boat trips, it is popular with fishermen, and there are bicycle trails along its banks.
