Tiny X-Yachts to be launched in summer 2019

Danish shipyard X-Yachts has revealed the construction of its smallest sailing cruise yacht yet. The X4.0, which will join the Pure X range early next summer, will be only 12.09 meters long. The boat has a base price of €257,500.

The naval architecture and interiors of the boat were designed by X-Yachts specialists themselves.

The main feature of the X4.0 design is the use of a rigid galvanized steel power frame integrated into the hull. The mast and keel are virtually fused to this frame, and the vacuum-infused hull is locally reinforced with carbon fibre.

Many of the details on the boat will be customizable by future owners at the ordering stage. In particular, there will be a choice of hulls with slightly higher or slightly lower draft: from 2.1 to 2.3 metres.

Should you prefer a flip-up aft swimming platform with a shorter draft or a longer draft that provides additional protection from splashing and waves? The deck itself may be teak-painted in cockpit only or in cockpit lounges and on the side decks. In front of the two helm stations aft for the helmsmen, you may wish to fit racks with electronic controls, or you may prefer to keep the helm station simple with compasses. The handwheels themselves can be made of teak or composite materials.

And what about a teak table on stainless steel legs in the cockpit? X-Yachts offers a choice of semi-permanent - with a built-in drawer that can be stowed and stored ashore, or a folding one that can be stored in a closet in the pantry.

As standard, there are slots on the deck for the jib rails. Optionally, longitudinal jib rails can be added to these on the cabin roof. This will enable you to use the 106% genoa jib and get the most out of the weak winds. But even without these improvements, the X4.0's ergonomics are designed so that only two people are needed to operate it properly.

The entrance to the yacht is divided «in half»: instead of the standard door on the X4.0 a horizontally sliding «lid», and perpendicular to it a glass wicket «» .

As far as the layout of the boat below deck is concerned, future owners again have a choice. If desired, there can be one or two double guest cabins in the stern.

In either layout, the owner's cabin is located forward of the X4.0.

However, this option will not be available until spring 2020. Another drawback of this layout is the lack of an onboard shower that is not combined with a WC. To accommodate an extra bedroom aft, the owners had to sacrifice the size of the WC.

Despite its small size (maximum beam 3.81m), the staterooms are spacious and functional.

A full-length row of portholes allows plenty of natural light and air below deck. In good weather it is easy to air the staterooms and bedrooms.

The inside of the boat can be finished in either Scandinavian Oak or Teak wood if the owners so wish. The flooring is either teak or walnut.

With so many alternative options, it's easy to be confused or forget to take note of anything. Once again X-Yachts proves to be a thrifty company that cares about its clients.

The yard's website includes an online configurator that can be used to build the X4.0 of your dreams.

When the process is complete a pdf-booklet with renderings and technical specifications is sent to the e-mail address of the owner.
