Three superyachts belonging to members of Qatar's royal family were destroyed in a fire at the Nakilat Damen shipyard in Doha , a joint venture between Nakilat and the Damen Group formed in 2010, according to information available to IBI News.

The shipyard fire damaged the 80 meter OCEANCO Constellation, the 52 meter CRN Maracunda and the 36 meter Riva Al Adaid, all three of which were docked at the time of the accident.

The total amount of the damage, according to preliminary estimates, will total about $60 mln.

The amount is nothing like the biggest insurance payout the boatyard has ever received in its history which fully covered the losses suffered in a fire at the Lürssen yard.

Superyacht Constellation, built by Oceanco, is the most expensive and therefore the most painful loss in the fire that occurred.

«Constellation» - as her name translates into Russian - was worth about $46M before the accident. This yacht is a sistership of Stargate, another Oceanco, which came off the slipstream a little later. She boasted 1,706 gross tons, 4.21m draft, steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

In the engine compartment were MTU 20V 1163 TB73L engines, each rated at 8,160 hp. Maximum speed was 28 knots and cruising speed was 24 knots.

Constellation could accommodate 19 guests aboard in eight staterooms with interior design by The A Group & Fantini.

The cause of the fire, which happened on August 11th, still remains unknown.

If eyewitnesses believe the fire area was so large that it took two and a half days to fight the flames.

There were no reports of casualties.

Recall that the56-metre superyacht Lady D recently burst into flamesin Phuket, Thailand.
