Olympic champion, Sir Ben Ainslie, has had his first training session on the upgraded AC45 catamarans equipped with hydrofoils. For the practice run, the Ben Ainslie Racing team headed out into the waters of the Solent Strait, having left their temporary base in Southampton. Photos and video of the practice session have already surfaced on the web.
The training boat of the British crew had flown the BAR colours during the America's Cup World Series in 2012/13, but could not fly at the time.
«Recall that Ben Aisnlie Racing is actively preparing for the 35th America's Cup», which will also feature Artemis Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand, Luna Rossa Challenge, Oracle Team USA and Team France. It was revealed last week that the 2015 and 2016 America's Cup World Series will take place in Portsmouth, the city where the Brits will be based.
