Last Friday, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued five people from the catamaran Rain Maker, owned by Pinterest service investor Brian Cohen. The $2.5 million vessel's 78-foot mast broke, and its owner and several guests were aboard the boat at the time.
The breakdown occurred 200 miles off the coast of North Carolina, caused by high winds.
The boat was evacuated by helicopter in rather difficult weather conditions. Fortunately, no one was injured. The boat, with the exception of the mast, was not badly damaged either.
Brian Cohen's Gunboat is a well know catamaran ( Forbes
Magazine wrote about Gunboat). It is reported to have 1300 square feet (just over 120 square meters) mainsail and 200 square feet (18 square meters) saloon. The vessel is also equipped with solar panels that power the electrical system needed to keep the electrical equipment on board running.
