The famous ship «Calypso», on which Jacques-Yves Cousteau sailed , may be sold at auction. This is reported by the agency «France Press».

The reason why the boat will go under the hammer is the debt for repairs required after the wreck in 1996.

At the time, the research vessel collided with a barge and was submerged for more than two weeks. The restoration of the boat, which was previously proposed to become a museum, only began in the 2000s.

The Piriou shipyard, which handled the repairs, reports a disagreement with the ship's owners, the association «Team Cousteau». The firm demanded the association to pay the debt (€273 thousand) by March 12, but the payment has not been made. As a result, Piriou intends to reapply to the court and request permission to sell the ship at auction.
