On this day exactly 160 years ago, August 22, 1851, the yacht "America" (pictured) under the US flag as standing "made" all the color of the British sailing fleet - 15 boats - in the regatta around the Isle of Wight. Thus began the turbulent history of the world's oldest sporting trophy, the America's Cup.
