On the night of April 7, 2012 in the Antarctic in Ardley Bay (where the Russian Antarctic station Bellingshausen is located) the Brazilian yacht "Mar Sem Fim" ("Endless Sea") sank at a depth of 9 m. The crew had been evacuated three days prior to the tragedy. Fortunately no one was injured.

The private yacht belonging to a Brazilian journalist was used for scientific and exploratory expeditions. The yacht had been undergoing three weeks of repairs in the Argentine polar station, and when she was about to leave for Brazil, a storm broke out. The captain decided to wait it out in Ardley Bay and drop the crew off at the Chilean station for rest. During the night the bay was blocked with ice, and two days later the yacht was overturned by an iceberg.
