Canadian couple Wayne Adams and Catherine King have been living on full self-sufficiency in a houseboat off Island for 20 years. Vancouver. The 12 platforms house a dance floor, an art gallery, a guest lighthouse, studios for Adams and King (he's a woodcarver, she's an artist), and five greenhouses. They eat only what they grow in their own vegetable garden and fished from the ocean. Electricity used to be supplied by 14 solar panels, but a recent storm knocked them out and forced the couple to switch to a small generator that generates 3,000 watts - enough to keep all the lights on for 12 hours.
