On the first of September, the sailing yacht LÜTHI 870, which was taking part in a weekend regatta, failed to separate from the ferry Simplon on Lake Geneva. The incident happened about one kilometer off the shore. Five crew members were thrown overboard. Two of them suffered serious injuries but their lives were not endangered.
The boat was also damaged. Her mast was broken and the hull was stuck under the starboard side of the ferry. She managed to be pulled out and sent to the shipyard for repairs. Simplon made do with scratches and soon continued her route.
The circumstances of the incident are being investigated, however, according to local laws, the ferry had priority on the water.
