On 1 June 2014, Valentin Mankin, three-time Olympic sailing champion, passed away at the age of 76. He went down in history as the only yachtsman in the world to win Olympic gold medals in three different classes: "Finn" (1968, Mexico City ), "Tempest" (1972, Munich) and " Star" (1980, Moscow). Since 1988, Mankin worked inItaly, where he coached Italian sailing stars, including world champion Alessandra Sensini.
