In the first race of last year's 18ft Skiff class championship in Sydney, Thurlow Fisher Lawyers, the defending champion, took the lead with 500 metres to go. The FLT crew were just a few meters ahead of their nearest rival, the Coopers 62-Rag & Famish Hotel. Suddenly, a 25-knot northeast wind changed direction. The Rag & Famish Hotel crew didn't take any chances and folded their spinnaker. The Thurlow Fisher Lawyers galloped to the finish line at full speed. Just when it seemed that victory was inevitable, Thurlow Fisher Lawyers turned over in a wave and sent the whole crew flying.
