Twelve boats left Liverpool on 20 August for the amateur Clipper Round the World Race, co-founded by renowned yachtsman Robin Knox-Johnston. More than 700 amateur sailors, led by experienced skippers, are taking part in this year's Round the World Race, which is being held for the 11th time. Some of them will pass one or several stages, others - the whole route of 40 thousand miles. Among the participants is a lady from Wittshire who is about to celebrate her 60th birthday in the Southern Ocean. The Clipper Round the World race is held every two years; last time in 2015 it ended in the deaths of two participants: one was struck by a boom and the other washed overboard in the Pacific Ocean.
