InNewport, Rhode Island, the first world championship in the J Class began. It was in Rhode Island as part of the America's Cup that the class first debuted back in 1930. The winner of the 20-mile opening race was Hanuman, driven by local star Ken Read. On the second day of competition, Hanuman managed to add another win to their first and establish themselves as the leader of the standings , three points ahead of the consistent Lionheart, who came in third in all three races held. However, there are still three days of racing ahead, so things could change in the position of the six regatta competitors.
